The Reading Weekend is designed to be almost obscenely relaxing.  We pick you up, tell you stories, feed you delicious food, soothe you with nightcaps and give you great reading ideas.  There’s no strict schedule—no horrific ice-breaker exercises.  It’s your weekend.

All you have to choose is the wine for dinner.  Everything else is done for you.  We’re happy to accommodate any dietary issues—just say in advance. All meals are included and they’re delicious—local, seasonal and sometimes even literary. Cooked for us by a chef from the award-winning Moro restaurant. Somehow you just get used to three course lunches.  You’ll be lavished with fizzing flutes of welcome fizz and some serious nightcaps (usually Damian’s Damson Gin).  Wine with dinner is extra—the only extra.  Everything else is included.

From 2013, it’s just £415pp based on two sharing.  This includes welcome drinks, nightcaps, all food and accommodation and the full literary program: 1-2-1 bibliotherapy with Ella Berthoud, bedtime stories, salon supper and the Woolf Walk.  We carefully select our guests and match room-mates with equal delicacy.  You’re welcome to smoke in the gardens but not the house.  Do make friends with Barkley the dog or any of the three, seemingly identical, cats.

We run Reading Weekends throughout the year in the UK and abroad.  Email us directly to make sure you get a place on the next one.

Happy reading!

The thing is, you don't want the Salon to end so you go on a Reading Weekend, then you don't want the Reading Weekend to end...roll on the Reading Weeks, Reading Months! Reading Years! Excellent leadership from your host, outstandingly delicious food, sinful damson gin. Totally recommended!
