Tilton House nestles deep in the Sussex countryside, between rolling Downs and wooded Weald. You can sniff the sea in the air. Literary leylines run from neighbouring Charleston, where the Bloomsbury Group frolicked.
Formerly home to John Maynard Keynes and ballerina Lydia Lopokova, Tilton is a Georgian farmhouse full of stories.
Read by the fire in the library or gossip round the table in the kitchen. There are plenty of quiet corners where you can doze with a clever-looking book in your hand. Grab your nightcap and enjoy a midnight wander in the gardens where Lydia loved to dance naked.
There are 10 handsomely appointed bedrooms (twins, triples and doubles—no singles) and 5 big bathrooms (shower with Sylvan views).
Mercifully there is almost no mobile phone signal. The whole place is pure Farrow & Ball cashmere loveliness and just over 1 hour from London. We’ll happily collect you from nearby Berwick station.
We’ve added more Reading Weekends at the luxurious Turnberry Resort in Scotland and also in the Caribbean.
Email info@readingweekend.co.uk for details on any of our breaks.
